Residency
Only students who are legal residents of Red Oak ISD and between the ages of 5-21 (as of
September 1) are eligible for enrollment into Red Oak schools.
- Before a minor student may be officially admitted to Red Oak schools, appropriate registration forms shall be completed and signed by the student’s parent, legal guardian, or other person having lawful control. Students who have reached age 18 or over shall complete and sign these forms themselves.
- At the time of registration and on an annual basis thereafter, the parent, guardian, or other person having lawful control under order of a court must present proof of residency in the attendance zone of the school in which attempting to enroll in the form of one or more of the following:
- A current water, electricity, or gas bill (no telephone bills) indicating address and the parent/guardian’s name.
- The most recent tax receipt indicating home ownership.
- Other timely documents that indicate location of residence, as approved by the campus Principal, including a current lease or rental agreement, or a contract on a home.
- A legal contract to purchase/build a home in Red Oak ISD will be accepted as “proof of residency” not to exceed 120 days. If at the end of a 120-day period, the parent/guardian is not actually residing in the district, the student will be withdrawn. Students enrolled under this provision will be considered transfer students until physically residing in the district.
- A parent/guardian may be required at any time to produce proof of residence. A proof of residency will be required each time a student attempts to enroll after moving away and returning or changing schools within the District.
- A minor student residing in the district whose parent or guardian does not reside in the district shall present a Power of Attorney assigning responsibility for the student in all school-related matters to an adult resident of the district. However, the student shall not be denied admission if circumstances preclude compliance with this requirement. The Superintendent shall determine whether a minor student residing in the district, separate and apart from a parent, guardian or other person having lawful control, is present in the District for the primary purpose of participating in extracurricular activities. The Superintendent’s determination may be appealed to the Board under GF local beginning at Level Three, by making a written request to the Superintendent within 15 days of the decision. [see policy FD local] A minor student whose parent, guardian, or other person with lawful control under a court order does not reside in the district and who has established a separate residence in the District shall not be admitted if:
- During the preceding calendar year, the student was placed in a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program or expelled.
- The student is on probation or conditional delinquent conduct or conduct indicating a need for supervision.
- The student is on probation or conditional release following conviction of a criminal offense. (FD local)
